Educational Requirements: The student must present his certificate of Bachelor’s in Science or other equivalent degree in science. If science was not the primary subject of study during the bachelor’s, then he or she should undergo one semester of compensatory education.
Entry-Level Tests: Entry-level tests are in English, and students can secure admission only after appearing for an entry test.
English Proficiency Test: Students with basic English language proficiency can sit for the university exam. If they pass the test, they get enrolled in the first year of study in their preferred degree course. In case, they do not pass the test, they must attend 10 months of preparatory language and specialized courses in English or Bulgarian, depending on the language in which the specialties are offered.
Here are the levels of proficiency required in the English language:
IELTS, minimum score required: 6.5
PTE Academic (the minimum score needed is 59).
TOEFL Paper, CBT, and IBT (with minimum scores of 550, 213, or 79).
PTE General (third-level minimum)
Many universities in Bulgaria take English language proficiency tests themselves, and the main focus of these universities is on a student’s IELTS and TOEFL scores, which should be above 6.5 and 81, respectively.
Even though English is an international language, many Bulgarian universities will require you to have some command over their regional language too. It is because universities in Bulgaria use English as an optional language. The option is for foreigners as the course is global.
It is important to know the deadlines of submitting the application. Most Bulgarian universities accept new admission forms and applications from April to December. Students must submit their applications for the upcoming term within these months.
